What is your role at Young Sea Changers Scotland?

“In my role as the Youth Advocacy Officer, I am supporting young people to use their voice to ask for the changes they would like to sea for Scotland’s seas. This includes working with 16 - 25 year olds to influence policy change through our Young Persons Policy Group””

Tell us about your background & what led to you YSCS

“I am a marine biologist and science communicator and love sharing what I learn about our oceans! And I have always enjoyed connecting people to help make change happen - I have worked with academics, industry, policy, science festivals, charities and more! I am excited in this role to help young people reach out to connect and collaborate across all those sectors for positive ocean change.”

Why do you think it’s important for young people to have a voice in marine policy?

“Being involved in policy decisions is a great way for young people to be heard about changes that directly influence their lives and the health of our oceans. There is a real opportunity for each young person’s voice to help make long lasting, positive change through policy. And the skills and confidence that can come from learning how best to share your voice can be so useful for the rest of young peoples careers.”

Tell us about your favourite coast or sea spot in Scotland

“Any place there is a rockpool, which in Scotland is a lot of places! I have a YouTube Channel called MarineMumbles (with 300+ ocean videos) where I make rockpooling vlogs! But I did go to the Isle of Barra and that was just one of the most stunning places I have ever seen (with great rockpools too)!”
